Avocado deep conditioning treatment

I’ve mentioned that I’ve been swimming quite a bit lately, and in combination with the cold, dry winter air, my hair has been suffering!  I decided to try a homemade deep conditioning treatment from the book Ecobeauty.

It’s a fairly simple recipe; whip some up and take a few moments to indulge in some relaxation while you let it work its magic on your hair.

Avocado deep conditioner

1 small avocado, mashed
2-3 tablespoons sour cream or plain yogurt
Juice of 1/2 lemon

Combine ingredients and massage into dry hair from scalp to roots.  Cover hair with shower cap or wrap in a towel and leave in for twenty minutes.  Soak in the tub or relax with a book and a cup of hot tea while you wait.  Then shampoo as usual.

At first, I thought this treatment made my hair too greasy — I have very fine hair that dries out quickly but is weighed down very easily with too much oil or product.  But, after one extra washing, I was kind of amazed with the results — my hair was much softer and more manageable. Next time, however, I think I’ll just apply to the ends.

It’s nice to know I don’t need to pay high-end prices for effective haircare!
